Howard County sports have officially started. Right now student-athletes are competing in their fall sports in a hybrid form. Fall sports include competitive football, soccer, field hockey, volleyball, cross country, cheerleading, and golf. March 5th was the first day of competition for sports in the county that included volleyball and boys and girls soccer.

On March 5th the Reservoir varsity boys soccer team faced off against River Hill. The final score was 2-1 with Reservoir taking the win on River Hill’s home field. On the same day, the Reservoir varsity girls soccer team played against River Hill and won 2-1. The River Hill Hawks have won three state titles prior to last season. The last win over the River Hill varsity girls team was in 2016 so the win for Reservoir was very exciting. On March 9th both of the girls and boys soccer team of Reservoir faced off Long Reach high school. Reservoir boys were at home and the girls were at Long Reach. The Reservoir girls team won with 3-1 and the Reservoir boys team won with 1-0. Then on March 11th, both Reservoir teams played against Wild Lake high school. The Reservoir girls team won with 1-0 and sadly the boy’s team lost against Wild Lake with 3-2.

So far the Reservoir high school football team has only played one game. On March 12th Reservoir faced off Howard. The final score was 17-0. The Reservoir varsity team is off to a rocky start but they have plenty of time to get back in the game. The next game they played was on March 19th against Long Reach high school which was also Senior Night for them.

The Reservoir volleyball team is off to a great start this season, so far being undefeated. On March 5th they played against River Hill and won 2-0. Then on March 8th they faced off Long Reach also winning with 2-0. Lastly, on March 10th they played Wild Lake and won 2-0.

The Reservoir field hockey team is also off to a decent start for their season. They won their first game on March 8th against Mount Hebron with 1-0. However, they faced Howard high on March 10th and lost with 1-0 but hopefully, they will bounce back.

Lastly, for cross country, the first meet of the season was on March 13th at Centennial high school. There were six schools competing Centennial, Reservoir, Howard, Glenelg, Wild Lake, and Hammond. The same schools were competing in the girl’s race expect there were no entries for any Hammond girls. The Reservoir high’s girls team came in second behind Howard, one of the best cross country teams in the state. Then it was Glenelg, Centennial, and Wild Lake. Two Reservoir girls made it into the top 15. On the boy’s side, Centennial won 1st place followed by Howard, Glenelg, Reservoir, Wild Lake, and Hammond. Overall the Reservoir sports teams are off to a great start for this season.
