After-School Tutoring is Available

by Raul A. Espinosa Gonzalez, Staff Writer

Reservoir High School offers an after-school tutoring program to all students. The goal was to help students with any assignment. They met every Monday through Thursday.

The program was accessible to everyone, and assistance was available in several subject areas, including Algebra, English, Social Studies, Earth/Space Science, Biology, Advanced Physical Science, Spanish, and Geometry. “The after-school tutoring is officially designated as ‘Beyond School Hours’ by HCPSS, and every high school offers this program,” said Mr. Matt Adamko, Science Teacher. As a bonus, the program offered snacks from Food Services.

Transportation support was also available, which allowed students to focus on their assignments and encouraged them to stay after school. Spanish and English tutors provided support along with several teachers and staff members. Students must register on a provided Google Form and get parent approval to be able to attend.

Mr. Adamko said, “Students who receive help, whether from a teacher or other staff member, parent, or peer, should have a better understanding of the material.”

The goal of tutoring is to strengthen student comprehension of a subject when smaller groups of students work better for learning. Individual attention helped students understand the material for a class and boosted their performance and grades.

Students were encouraged to take advantage of several forms of support, including the virtual tutoring hours at the Howard County Public Libraries from 2 pm to 11:55 pm.
